Laid up
Posted on | November 25, 2005 |
I woke up at 5:30 with stomach flu. NO, IT ISN’T FOOD POISONING, or everyone else would have it—and I’m the only one who had to run to the bathroom this morning where I sat in agony on the loo. I’ve been floating in and out of a feverish haze all day. The real reason I’m posting however, is that I spent most of today away from my beautiful baby and I missed him something fierce when I finally dragged myself out to the living room. And you know what? He missed me back! He reached his arms out and grinned and chuckled and just about ate my face of with his version of kisses.
It is as though I’m watching him grow at light speed today. Suddenly he seems so big: eating mostly solids (soup and sweet potatoes spoon fed by his nonna). Just in a heartbeat during our visit here he has learned to stick his tongue out and wave ‘bye bye’ and ‘hi.’
I’m writing about it because I’m not sure it’s really happening–as feverish and miserable as I’ve been today. I’m looking forward to coming back to what I’ve written when I’m better–to read it like a postmark. This happened. Because right now I’m pretty much just whimpering and wishing I could fast forward.

I’m sorry you’re feeling bad during your time away from home!
They grow too fast, don’t they?

Oh hon! I’m so sorry you’re sick. At least you’re somewhere where people can take care of you and yours and you can just get better. Smooches on your head.

Man I am a big crybaby today. Your post made me tear up because I’m thinking the exact same things about Troll Baby. Tonight he played this little game with me where he would give me an open mouthed drooly kiss, and we looked each other in the eyes, and when I widened my eyes, and grinned, he would throw his head back, laughing and giggling. I love this stage, where they like to joke around. OH LORD, where is the Kleenex?????

P.S. How rude of me - I hope you are feeling better!

Sorry you got the nasty stomach bug. Hope it clears up soon.
It seems like my son grows faster when I leave for a trip for a few days. I come back and he seems so much bigger and acts so much older than when I left.

Sorry for the bug I had a lovely feeling of similarness…except it was from brocolli. Dang vegitable I can’t eat it. Hope you feeling better. I can’t believe the changing pictures I see of Bean and wonder what shock I will be in when I see him next

Sorry to hear a bug’s got you down…get well soon! Your description of your son made me smile…I was folding laundry yesterday and when I held up my son’s pants and shirts I nearly cried because they are SO BIG. He’s so BIG!! He’s turning 8 in 12 days and I can’t figure out where the time has gone.

So sorry to hear you fell ill while visiting family for the holidays. What unfortunate timing. But, lucky gal you are to have such a bundle of coo-y goodness to welcome you back.

yes, i remember the very first time i was really, really sick after my son was born. my mother and sister came to pick him up because i was totally useless. they took him downstairs to leave and i made them drag him back upstairs because i hand’t gotten to kiss him goodbye and i just had to kiss him goodbye. they reluctantly trudged upstairs but i just had to have that kiss before parting.
