I just said the following phrase:
Posted on | May 15, 2006 |
“….but you know that 98% of my daily happiness comes from my laptop,” and then I gasped, because I really just said that. And because it’s true.
I use my laptop more than any other tool: for writing, photo editing, web stuff, music. And tonight after I came out of the bedroom from putting Bean to sleep, it had gone and fried itself. Just like that. Nothing works. It will start, but refuses to run any programs. It sounds like a jet preparing for take off. And me? I’m like an old Datsun spinning in deep mud without it.
So anyway, I’m typing on DH’s computer. I hate his keyboard (it feels HUGE because I’m used to using my laptop keypad), and it’s in his office, being used all day, so until the situation resolves itself, I’ll be forced into an internet sabbatical. Probably I’ll be feeling the effects of this more than you will–but still. Feel my pain. Whimper with me.

WHIMPER. I NEED YOU. Online! All the time! (fyi my computer did that too and it was the hard drive getting ready to crash — i had a friend extract all the data before my laptop fully blew up. then dell sent me a new hard drive.) and, in case you hadn’t heard, i’m back

I do feel your pain as I listen to our hardrive sounding like something is caught in the fan. We’ve backed up and also ordered a laptop so we can get this desktop fixed ~ argggh!

Arggh! What will I do with your words?

oh holy crap. it happened to you, too. that sounds like fried hardware! shit. I’d better go backup now. As if I had never learned this the hard way, myself. Oh MAN Christina, I’m sorry that happened! You KNOW I feel your pain!

Wait, you won’t be here when I look for you? NO! That is SO not OK.

Oh hon, I do feel your pain…or I did a few months ago when our laptop died and we were without ANY computer for a month… And yes, it was shocking to realize in that moment just how dependent I’d become on it for my daily sustenance.

Its a hard thing to admit, the love for your laptop.
I have recently confessed, and my children now call my laptop a “shrine” and bow down to it whenever they walk by.

I feel for you — I dumped a cup of coffee on our laptop and it was out of commission for a long time. But one day we decided to fire it up and see if it turned on and it did, and it works fine now — so maybe yours will, too!

don’t underestimate
your effects on all of us out here…
waiting patiently for new posts,
breathing sighs of releif when
we see a new one posted…
hanging on your every turn of phrase,
sighing when done,
rereading our favorite bits and pieces
before
stopping to leave a comment…

gkgirl - you said it perfectly. Christina, this blog is like a good book that is also interactive, but better because the pleasure in reading it and finding out what happens next is delayed a little … now it will be delayed a lot. we will be waiting!!
the laptop thing happened to us also at one point … I used to sit on the couch with it in my lap while i was pregnant and search for houses on realtor.com. then the poor thing died. over a year later and i still complain to my husband that i wish the laptop worked. good luck with yours.

It’s like a bad dream. Maybe if we all just pinch ourselves, it will be over.
::pinch::
NUTS!
Hurry back, Christina! I’ll miss your beautiful photos!

Bummer, Christina. I hope you can get some of your stuff off of there. The stars must be aligned this week for things breaking!

i feel your pain. my husband bought me a laptop for christmas, since he works from home and needs his and life is not the same. i feel like i at least have access to get online whenever i want and if something goes wrong i feel lost.

This happened to me too. I spent all last weekend without a compute, and still have a large empty spot on my desk at home. I had to spend extra time fooling around outside… turns out that wasn’t so bad afterall!
