Two kinds of prayers

Posted on | November 12, 2006 |

Praying

It doesnt have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and dont try
to make them elaborate, this isnt
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

this is unbelievable. My agency does work for carmelite nuns (long story) and we are doing a podcast on unanswered prayers. This is the exact poem they cited. My favorite thing they said was that the concept of unanswered prayers assumed that prayer was a form of a question. they see it as an ongoing dialogue with God- seeing God in all things.

“This isn’t a contest but a doorway…” WOW. Just wow. As someone who spent a lot time this morning praying with twenty prayer callers in two hours - this feeds my soul. I need this poem on my desk! And you and the Bean - just a delicious, heartwarming sight. I love the silliness of these - and OH how has he gotten SO big?
