{my topography}

The shape of daily life.

I was tagged by the beautiful Boho to write about 5 things that I haven’t already told you… hmm…I’ve already told you more than is decent to tell, but here goes.

1) I was six when I first kissed a boy.

2) I love drawing free-hand maps of the world. I love to draw the blue water pressing up against the tiny irregular shapes of the islands and continents. Drawing maps reminds me how both miraculous and insignificant we are, in the scope of the cosmos.

3) If I were to entirely reinvent myself and be someone completely other than I am, I’d be a veterinarian or a midwife or both.

4) If I could learn anything right now by osmosis, it would be to do the meringue beautifully.

5) I live each day with intolerable delight and great terror, simultaneously: I grew up somehow believing that I am capable of anything.

You’re it. What are five things you haven’t told about your self?

(And because they are all attempting NaNoBloPoMo, the following lovelies have no excuse but to write…A writerly rebel, an amazing wannabe, a lovely blog vixen, and a perfect peach)

    2) Neat - seems to be very you!

    3) I would be a photojournalist for National Geographic.

Thanks for the tag - I am desperate for blog fodder at this point!!

Thanks also for the compliments on my photos… at this point I am still doing most everything on auto or mostly auto settings; I haven’t delved nearly as much into the technical aspects of photography as I want to yet so I must give my camera & 50mm lens a lot of credit! And I must also admit to using photoshop to make up for what my photos lack when I can…

re #4 - The meringue is super-easy! We had a Latin dance instructor come to school last month. Salsa, cha cha…those require more steps and movements. But as she explained it, if you can walk, you can meringue! It’s just taking tiny steps with alternate feet–the ‘movement’ is all in the body language. I was so tickled! All these years (especially the ones spent listening to salsa stations in Puerto Rico) I thought it was so hard! J was playing drums along to her instruction…I ran up onstage next to his kit and exclaimed, “This is IT?! THIS is the meringue?!” Go on, try it…you’ll see. Ooooh, or did you mean MAKE meringue. ;)

The secret to the meringue is in separating the yolks from the whites correctly. …or, no, wait. hahaha!

    1. I truly LOVE being underwater. If I could, I’d spend hours under water, everyday.

    2. I crave watermelon all winterlong but when summer comes I never buy it…I have NO idea why.

    3. I sometimes regret going to law school.

    4. I once called my father a bastard in a fit of anger, and to this day, I deeply regret it.

    5. I’m seriously considering trying to write a first novel.

I love these - finding out little things about my favorite bloggers! I’d definitely be a midwife too (only a very recent daydream though, since the baby). And aren’t meringue’s daunting? I’ll stick to pumpkin for now. I put my own five over on my site - thanks for the inspiration.
