And we’re done

Posted on | December 1, 2006 |

NaNoBloPoMo is over, and I’m so ecstatic that I can go back to being frivolous and lazy and completely irresponsible about posting. I’ve also decided that because it became my posting art form this month I’ll leave you with a list of things I hope to accomplish in the next few weeks. To make me very, very happy (or utterly jealous because you’re all sick overachievers) post your lists in the comments.

1) I think I need to go to blog rehab now, to recover from all my crappy, inconsequential posts. To that end, I’m craving returning to my notebook for inspiration. I want to make quick sketches & line drawings, and collages this month…and I want very much to return to the art of writing in complete paragraphs. Yes, I want that very much.

2) I want to send out holiday cards before December 23 when I usually do. I have a crush on getting mail, but I’m so bad at sending anything these days. It doesn’t help that my mail box is at the end of our very long driveway, and the only times I drive past it are either when I’m balancing a cup of coffee and a toasted bagle on my way to work, or when I’m clinging to the wheel with both hands, out of utter exhaustion, on my way home each day. I could walk, you might think, but that generally involves a little Bean who is given to pretending he is incapable of walking at the most inconvenient times (like when I’m holding a large armful of mail and really have to pee.) But the truth is, I just suck at sending mail. Envelopes sit on my counter unstamped. Letters get lost in the car en route to the post office. I can’t be trusted to send anything on time, except, possibly (and rarely) things of critical importance.

3) When Bean pulled my shirt up and his entire baby hand disappeared into the soft expanse of my stomach, the reality finally hit today. I will not survive the holidays without becoming a truck, if I don’t get back into a routine of regular exercise. As it stands, I have already become (according to Bean) a particularly pleasant lump of dough.

4) To that end, I went on a run tonight with DH. At night. In the dark. By flashlight. And I want to beg all of you to try it. It is fantastic to run in the dark, without all the visual distractions, and the thudding rush of your blood rising up like a song in your ears. Also, when we got we gave the flashlight to Bean, and he had the BEST TIME EVER running around the dark yard pointing it at things. Remember flashlight tag? So fun.

5) Lastly, I’d like to finish the mammoth stack of books I now have by my bedside. Like a workout habit, I need to reinstate a few moments in my day meant just for reading. I miss the dreamy other-worldliness of reading for hours, and the way it almost immediatly has a positive affect on my writing, like a I.V. of brilliance to the arm.

What do you want to do before the solstice arrives?

    1) I want to start writing a script with an amazing co-writer recently discoverd. We found a place where our stories entertwine and will therefore combine them.
2)I want to go through my scriptwriting notes and put together a short workshop on writing the screen play of your life.
3)I want to catch up on the five books that always still needs to be read when I buy a new book at my favourite second hand bookshop.
4)I want to spend a day away with my parents. I never get to spend longer than an afternoon with them.
5)Lastly I want to get a tan. In the last three years I have turned a lovely shade of office white.

I’ve enjoyed reading your posts everyday, but like yourself I’m off to blog rehab today.

It is a good idea to make a list. I think I’ll do that today. and NOT blog it, just because I can! Wheeee!

    1. Buy and wrap presents before Christmas Eve.
    2. Teach the oldest daughter how to bake an apple pie.
    3. Listen to obscene amounts of Christmas music.
    4. Attend one PTA meeting.
    5. Buy a house.
If I can do all of those things, especially the first and last, it will be a successful month.

    1. I want to organize my house. I want to buy shelves, little baskets, and anything else that will hold the clutter that surrounds me. This house is MUCH smaller than our last two that we lived in and it is a challenge to give everything a place.
    2. I want to take on another big household project - I want to put crown molding, a chair rail, wainscoting (sp?), and paint our living room.
    3. I want to find a yoga class that fits into my life as a full- time SAHM, part-time college student, part-time lab tech. I, too, am becoming a malleable lump of clay.
    4. I want to find a trustworthy and kind babysitter so I can be a woman again and dress up and go on dates with ONLY my husband. I need to feel that bond with him - we have not been out just us since Porter was born.
    5. I also want to get Christmas cards off early. The last two years have yeilded good attempts, but no actual cards going out because of the transitions we have been in. I have always measured my stability by how well I get mail out … I have always fallen short.

    1) finish book editing and get them uploaded online
    2) plan my son’s birthday party and send out invitations before the actual date has passed AAAGH!
    3) write Christmas letter and put together photo page
    4) consider and possibly reject writing 42 million Christmas cards this year
    5) clean the fish tank. Those poor, poor fish.

1.) Write a minimum of 100 words a day. To complete this, I’ve signed up at 100words.net

2.) I want to clean up my house a bit, make it more of a home. I’ve lived here for almost a year now, and before that year is over (jan. 1st) I want the house to be a home.

3.) I would like to draw more. To just draw, like I did when I was a child and had hardly anything to worry about.

4.) Speaking of…I want to try and worry less. I want to let go more.

5.) Last but not least: I want to read more as well, the stack of books I want to read hardly fit on my bedside table anymore.

    1) Finish the composing and illustrating the 2006 holiday card.
    2) Sketch every day, and complete three complex drawings.
    3) Spend the day with my grandmother.
    4) Put more effort into doing the right thing (which usually means keeping my yap closed.

1.) I would like to get back into charcoal drawing.

2.) Reading is on my list too. Since 2000 when I became an internet junkie, my reading has suffered. I own so many books I’ve never read!

3.) If I could figure out how to make my art more successful (financially) that would be a very HAPPY NEW YEAR present!

4.) Eat healthier and lose weight. ugh!

5.) Last but not least, be regular about going to church instead of going every now and then. :(

I love your #2! I am so irresponsible when it comes to mail. Especially packages that require a schlep to the post office. ARGH!

    Let’s see, my list:

    1) I too need to get our Christmas card out. This entails getting the entire family presentable and trying to get a good picture. Which is a tall order. Once I get that done, it is easy to order them and then send them out.

    2) I have a brunch for my girlfriends on the 16th and a birthday party for my 3-y/o on the 17th. I want to be prepared for both of these events so I’m not stressing out last minute.

    3) Get the house clean and keep it that way so I can enjoy the Christmas season.

    4) Finish Christmas shopping.

    5) Spend more time with the kid and less on the computer.

    1. Make an ultimate decision about grad school and stop dragging my feet.

    2. Finish upholstering and painting the damn desk chair that has been sitting half-finished in the bedroom for over a year.

    3. Embrace the Christmas insanity at my job teaching HS. The girls tend to be nuts at this time of year, and that in turn drives me up a wall. This year I will just be silly along with them.

    4. Stop adding to the pile of unread books. I have this bad habit of buying a book every time I am in a bookstore (about 3-5 books a week). I then bring the book home and either put it in the pile or begin to immediately read it. Therefore, NO book ever leaves the pile. So the pile grows and grows, and dozens of classics sit ignored on the floor. I simply need to stop buying books for a year or so.

    5. Put together a smashing gift for the boy. I have a fabulou idea in my head, but like most of my crafty projects, I worry that it will sit half-done on the bedroom floor until December 23rd. We have a “must be homemade” policy this year and I am determined to outdo myself.

I need to send out Christmas cards, finish shopping and wrapping, and get my car serviced.

I want to sit with egg nog lattes and read, listen to soft music with candles lit, and watch a few old but excellent movies.

If none of the above were to happen, my heart is still grateful for family and friends, for another year closing and new discoveries yet ahead.

I also need to get Christmas cards out the door.
I want to start a new tradition in our little family.
I want to have some friends and family over for a holiday dinner at our new house.
    Yes, of course…read more.

    1. Be happy with the Christmas tree the way it is, and not stress out trying to make it perfect.
    2. Finish the pot holders and make the gift baskets for grown up presents. Mail SIL’s.
    3. Knit something for my oldest son. Hat and scarf?
    4. Finish the Raggety Andy dolls for the two little boys.
    5. Knit some socks for my mom’s Jan. birthday.
    6. Make peanut butter penuche for all the kids’ teacher presents.
    7. Knit a shawl for the school silent auction in Feb.
    8. Get a good picture of all three boys, order and mail Christmas cards. (This is the most challenging one; does not have to be done by Christmas this year. I’m giving myself a break).
    9. Write and post at least 5/wk kidlit book reviews on my blog.
    10. Make time to just sit and have a cuppa and relax.
*Thanks for the chance to make this list. I am keeping it as a sticky on my desktop now!
