The shape of daily life.

Hi. Already.

Posted on | January 11, 2007 |

Hello, Internets !

I haven’t checked my stats in so long, I believe I’ve forgotten my passwords. But I know that there are many cool people out there who come here, and some of you write me absolutely awesome emails, or send me lovely chocolate covered figs, or gorgeous photos, or cds with amazing girly housewarming tunes (thank you, thank you, a zillion times, thank you!)

But others of you I’m sure, lurk your way through my posts each day, never toching your keyboard. And in your honor, it’s that week again. That’s right. NATIONAL DELURKING WEEK. Go ahead, say hi. Every single one of you. You will make my day. My week, even. Really. And just for you, I painted this picture (in keeping with my January art every day resolution.)

    Hello-
I love reading your posts and looking at your art work. It is also particularly wonderful to me that you speak frankly about your relationship. It is so hard to hear perspectives on what people do to work through struggle. Thank you for sharing those tender moments… it is wonderful and inspiring. Thank you so very much.

Ok, I admit I mainly lurk…I may have commented once or twice but I can never say anything that matches the strength of your writing! I love reading your blog. Being the mother of a newly two year old I also often ‘borrow’ many of the tips others post you! So thank you ;-)

Such a good idea, a challenge to delurk. Writing comments doesn’t come naturally to me. Maybe it’s because reading blogs almost feels like reading a book - and it feels strange to write to a character in a novel or in my head… I do love your blog though, it inspired to me create my own.

I agree with Susannah (above), mainly lurk because your writing is so wonderful, what can one say! I love the artwork, love the views on life, that you struggle, are joyous and it all comes out so very eloquently and artistically… so peeking my head out for a brief delurk, then likely back down again!

Love your work (congrats on the show) Good luck with the toilet training - my girl has been out of her nappies for about 5 months now and I’m loving it (when they’re ready it seems to happen v quickly). Hope the MIL doesn’t cramp your style too much : )

Hoping to start my blog with the baby we are waiting. “Some shred of what you write matters in a new way to me”. Lurking because writing English takes much time. But for this time delurking.

Out from the shadows … been here a couple of times needing some creative solace. Thank you for that.

On the MIL front, I hear you. And I’ve spent the last five years trying to fit in, trying to please and [big sigh] I’m less me than ever before. So be yourself. Take wide strides on the sidewalk. This is you. All of you. And there’s no shame in that.

    My 2007 mantra:
I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is to try to please everyone.

I’m not a total lurker as I’ve commented a time or two. I’ve been reading your beautiful words for several months now. I’m in Oregon where you would think it was NH or Vermont right now with the snow and cold temperatures. Love the giraffe - my favorite animal.

Hi! I’ve been reading your blog for about a year — ever since the day your sister (I believe) was far away and in a car accident. Been reading ever since. I’ve commented maybe 3 times but one disappeared! I’m jealous of your creative courage and commitment — I was heavy duty with creative writing in college — but grad school killed that! I’m a busy working mom to two growing girls and would love the creative drive back. We live in Ohio. (I don’t think Ohio killed my creativity, but it *was* about the time I moved here that it went away !!!!)

I was a lurker for about a day before I was compelled to post, and then a day later I was compelled to create my own blog.. Next thing you know, I’ll be drawing pictures! (and there are few things in this world scarier to me).. Thanks for all you do! We never realize how many lives we impact — nice to have something like a blog to bring some of those stories to light!

Delurking here, too! I just created my own blog lately, partly because of the fabulous inspiration I’ve found here and in other blogs I frequent. I, too, once loved writing and am struggling to get back to that. Keep up the fabulous words!

    Hello.
I guess I am delurking right now. All of this is new to me. I found your blog listed on Ali Edwards blog. I started reading blogs around November, when I saw them on scrapbooking sites. One led to another and another and another– yours is a regular part of my internet time. Love it. Thanks for the challenge.

Hello from Chicago! I just stumbled upon your blog the other evening and spent the rest of the night reading your posts and looking at your artwork and photographs. You seem to be such a lovely and delightful person. You’re so very talented and creative. You should most definitely write a book - I believe you’re a brilliant writer (and I read a lot - I’m an elementary school teacher full-time and librarian part-time so I’m always surrounded by books) I don’t know how you find the time to do all that you do in addition to having a small child. I must say that you’ve inspired me! Thank you!

Hello. I’ve been a fan since the first time I found you through Ali Edwards site. I find your writing so brave and true and brilliant. It strange how words from a complete “stranger” can touch something inside. Definitely an inspitation, one of the reasons I started my own blog. Thank you.

not really a lurker but thought i’d join the crowd to say again that yours is one of my very favouritest blogs. your words, creativity, urge to engage in the now-ness of life and to wrestle with the tough parts until they yield something good - all so very inspiring. don’t ever stop writing!

    hey.

I discovered your blog in a highly unusual way. It was on my laptop in that bar where the addresses go. Funny thing is though, only I use my laptop. But nonetheless I love your artwork and your very different view of life and living (well, its vastly different than what I’ve grown up with, or been around). I think I “discovered” your site my junior year in high school, now I am a freshman in college. I still love to come to your site and see whats new. I sincerely wish you strength to accomplish all your dreams.

I was a lurker for quite a while, but then crawled out into the open. I’m glad you have so many readers, and I think I may well speak for most of us when I say that how you share the shape of your life makes my own life more vivid and lively — and certainly more anchored in the “now.”

Okay, Okay, I’ll comment! I actually did comment the other day … and there was some atrocious (sp?) glitch with the computer thingy, and it didn’t work! *cry* I stumbled across your site looking for inspirational artwork. Your work is incredible. I was commenting on your painting of the hummingbirds over the nighttime cityscape. I’ve bookmarked your site … this is a very intriguing blog. Glad to ‘know’ you!

Hello from a longtime lurker. Actually last week I actually posted my first comment. I’m on a roll now. I discovered you today and will bookmark your blog. The entry about you and your husband getting what you THOUGHT you wanted and then trying to understand why you are constantly questioning your decision and dreaming of another adventure really hit home. I enjoyed my 39th wedding anniversary today. We are best friends. Whatever the next thing will be, it will be with us together and that is good.I’m beginning to believe there isn’t a “best” thing for us. We have always had gypsy hearts.
