Sleep, interrupted.

Posted on | March 13, 2007 |

Every hour. Every single hour, he woke up (stomach ache? teething? All he kept saying was, “Hug! Want a hug!”) Does the word derailed have meaning for you? Because that’s how I feel this morning. Or like all of my cells are zinging, vibrating at some near out of body frequency, my pulse quick from exhaustion. I don’t do well with no sleep. I would suck at those adventure races. Today will be a scramble to get back on track. A large coffee this morning, and then a long day. What do you do when you’re this tired? Any tricks?

When I first went back to school, I was working overtime on the graveyard shift. My big thing was to keep moving. I was no slacker that semester. At work, I was all over the place because moving was the way I managed to keep from falling asleep on my feet. In class was a little more difficult, but I took tons of notes, even when I didn’t need them, just to keep myself moving. I don’t know how, but I managed straight As that semester, and every semester after that.

It’s beyond difficult with small children, but if you can close your eyes for 10 minutes, it makes a huge difference. Hope this helps.

I spent 4 days with a total of maybe 8 hours of sleep when finishing a project last fall. It was horrible. But daylight had a magic impact of somehow giving me the feeling I was more awake than during the night … so maybe my advise would be to seek the light and let it carry you through the day ..

It took me a long time to learn what to do - for me…
    I LET myself be tired.
I make myself move slower through the day, I attempt less, I give myself extra time.
I cancel something, I say no, I sit longer than I should.
Give yourself permission to be tired.

I find that a fifteen minute catnap really helps. Fifteen minutes in your car on lunch break will renew you.

I don’t know that there is anything you CAN do, except get through it as best you can, and then collapse, muddy and exhausted.

I do not get a good sleep properly for days and days, because Ewan also has a strage habit of waking up two three times at night. Don’t think of your tiredness. That is how i do. I do not think of my tiredness at all and finction as nothing happened. I know that it is hard. But when you dwell on it, it becomes much harder. Hope Bean sleeps well tonight.

I keep going, try a little yoga, chug caffeine, and wait for night to come again! Hang in there! I feel your pain.

I thought comments #6 and #7 were pretty good. I would say … cat nap when at all possible (I’ve taken many in my car) … and a good vitamin nutritional supplements(particularly B). I guess you’ve already made it through your day though. Hope you made it, and a good night’s sleep tonight.

I’m hoping now you are soundly asleep and dancing through your dreams. Also sending a few prayers that Mr. Bean will be exhausted from all his not sleeping and have a solid night of sleep. Little monster!! :)

I have been there! A sick 22 month old has meant some sleepless nights lately! Try to have a little nap in the day if you can. It always helps to rejuvenate me! Best~
