Doing

Posted on | April 30, 2007 |

Doing so many things, there are hardly enough moments to pause with cup of tea and post and read my favorite blogs. To sum things up for the past few days:

* Painted my studio blue this weekend, and rearranged furniture. Today Bean stepped in the drying paint tray and then onto the hardwood floor. “Uh oh, mama! Uh oh!” He wailed. I promptly scooped him up and tried to pass him to DH over the top of my work table. He planted his panted on feet squarely on DH’s jeans. Naturally, following the utter rediculousness of this particular train of events, DH tossed his jeans into the sink (as per my instruction–hot wanter will remove latex paint, if treated immediately) without removing his cell phone from the pocket. I’m sad to report it didn’t make it, but because we know we’re prone to bizarre accidents like this one, we have cell phone insurance, so it’s all good.

* Threw some new pots at the studio tonight and finally figured out why my back has been hurting for weeks: hunching over the potter’s wheel.

* Signed up for a writing workshop right after school lets out with one of my most favorite authors. Whoo hoo! (I’m not telling whom just yet as I’m still feeling a queasy mix of utter excitment and terror at the prospect of workshopping with someone I so admire.)

* Got back into the groove of things at school today. Suddenly the kids all look tall to me. Like second graders. They get jokes now, and can work independently. It feels good to be here, at this point in the year. To see the product of all my hard work in the faces of my eager kids. We wrote an acrostic poem today that I simply must bring home and post because it is brilliant.

* Mopped the floors for the first time (almost, well, no not almost…really, for the first time) since we moved–over vacation, and did aproximately nine million loads of laundry. DH folded the entire mountain today while I was at work–and put up all the dining room window trim that’s been missing.

Whew. I’m sure I’ve missed a zillion other things but my brain is zinging from a lack of sleep. I miss blogging though. Miss hearing from all of you. What have you been up to, since spring has come?

Life does seem to lurch into fast forward when spring finally arrives. This weekend was a wedding (and I was a bridesmaid, hopefully for the last time) and a concert/work thing, and very busy. My darling friend Sara (Rookie Mama, the GBK’s mom) came over tonight and helped me clear out my closet of unwanted clothes, and we packed up some things in preparation for moving! I feel a bit overwhelmed with all that “people time” and am yearning for a bit of alone time. Sigh. It’s not going to happen, but for now I am climbing in bed with my good book and maybe the iPod for the baby to rock out to while I lay in bed.

YEEP! Over your writing workshop. I just can’t wait to hear about who it is, when the time comes. Also, please don’t forget to tell us what magazine you’re appearing in, whenever that happens.

Can you raise your potter’s wheel a bit to give your back some relief? Since I returned to Sweden where Spring is in FULL SWING, I have spent an inordinate amount of time just staring at trees. O trees! How I do love you!

Congratulations on the workshop! I too am curious to hear who this mysterious author is… I am also taking a workshop this summer with someone I have long admired, which makes me dizzy with anticipation (and hopes I will not be too flubbering, too star struck).

This spring: getting my feet in the dirt, finding new opportunities, travel, and anticipation for marriage.

I look forward to reading more!

When it rains, it pours! You had such a good attitude about the mishap with the blue paint. I admire that. :)

Summer’s coming with all its excitement and change in routine!

Spring (or is it already Summer?) has taken us completely in here in Germany for the past two weeks. This unbelievable blue sky! The warmth, no, the heat! The sun, so extremely bright, my eyes still hurt from just not being able to turn away from the sight of this long lost companion. I just started my new term at university, feeling very motivated and ready to plunge into new projects and courses. Sunlight just seems to give me pure energy.

Running around wearing skirts and short-sleeved shirts .. driving my bike .. smelling the first barbeques of the season .. feeling fresh. Renewed. Awake.

.. looking forward to hearing about your writing workshop, it sounds fantastic!

oh your paint incident is just one of those times you cannot do anything but grin and bear it ;O)

with the arrival of sping, i am enjoying the long awaited sunshine, feeding and watching backyard birds with my daughters, and trying to get myself more organized. Oh, yeah, and now that you mention I really should do my floors and tend the mountain of laundry we have piled high here, too…
