Spontaneous delight

Spent some quality family time the past few days. Downtown, eating nutella & coconut crepes on a park bench, people watching yesterday evening. The day before we were there running errands, and ended by ordering iced chocolates from the local chocolatier shop, and then stopping to watch a motley group of b-boys (break dancers) put on a show. Totally awesome. Bean loved every minute.
Today we passed more than an hour of time in a local greenhouse/garden center that has a lovely little cafe with tables among the greenhouse plants. Nothing like eating a fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato sandwiches under hanging baskets of bromeliads by a quoi pond. Made a mental note to self: go here in the middle of winter, often!
I love days like this where we’re all together, getting things done, and then we tangent off into something unexpected. Little spontaneous bursts of delight. Most of the morning was spent at the tile store—we’re building a hearth for our new woodstove, to be arriving in a few weeks. It will be fire-engine red, and toasty. Cannot wait.
What have you all been up to? Do you have any favorite little places to go that bring you delight?

See the really odd thing is that I JUST finished eating a fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato sandwich. Some how, that’s all I can focus on at the moment.
I guess that what happens after a week of single parenting.

It’s been foggy here, punctuated with thunderstorms. Today we spent the afternoon in front of our fireplace, just napping and snacking and playing with trains with the smell of woodsmoke thick in the air, and fat, drenching rain outside. Heaven.
Nutella on coconut crepes… you just made me huuuungry!

Today was similar for me, except that it was spent by myself! I did some errands, enjoyed reading Mary Jane’s Farm book (delight!) and eating a cookie and iced tea. Just a nice day. Now the banana bread is sitting for nibbling later on and some fresh bread out of the machine is cooling for dinner.

Being able to putter around the house with the family after almost 6 weeks of working most nights and weekends = delight.

My stepmother had that idea for her greenhouse in northern MN, called World’s Grooviest Greenhouse. We were going to put a little area to sit among the plants that included little things to buy and eat. She passed on last spring from ovarian cancer, but her sisters are still carrying on her legacy.
I enjoy taking my son and escaping to Skidaway National Park - a little refuge in the middle of the city complete with bridges across the salt marsh. My favorite time is fall when the wind gets crisp and fresh!

Well I LOOVE LOOOVE LOVE our woodstove. I hope you have the same experience.
And I love all your words, and how you put them together, but what I’m loving best right now is your ART. Just fantastic. I sit and stare at it and see new things each time.

I am re-reading Keri Wyatt Kent’s book Breathe again and working on a plan to actually find a little breathing room by practicing what she calls Sabath Simplicity. What a concept - actually taking a day off to rest! Sounds easier than it is when I have a lot of ironing, cleaning and cooking to do and preparations for my son’s and my first day back to school!
