Others to read: A Son of the Circus by John Irving and The Circus in Winter by Cathy Day. Both are quite good. He runs away and at one point joins a circus just like this. I think you'd enjoy the book. I love my bed too. Just the way you describe it…

I stayed up all night reading it, though, so start it on a weekend or something. :) My ex wife worked for a traveling carnival for a while, working a midway game. I'm afraid her stories of the actual life are not all that charming. Pretty gritty. But fascinating none-the-less and carry their own kind of otherworldly magic. I'd love to hang out back stage at Cirque du Soilel for a season.... I recommend Water for Elephants, too. I stayed up all night reading it, though, so start it on a weekend or something. :)
